Why This Matters Now
Manitoba adopted the 2020 codes at Tier 1 in 2024, and the province’s tier framework is advancing from there. The 2025 national codes raise the baseline on insulation, mechanical, and lighting requirements, and Tier 2 requires a real, measurable jump in energy performance over that baseline. Whether you design, document, install, or inspect, these changes will show up in your work. This course gives you a clear, practical read on what’s shifting and what it means in practice, before it lands as a surprise on a project.
This FREE course will help prepare you for the changes to codes coming in June 2027.
What is the Codes Acceleration Project?
The Codes Acceleration Project (CAP) is a province-wide training initiative delivered by the Manitoba Environmental Industries Association (MEIA), built for the professionals who work with building and energy codes every day.
Over one focused day, you’ll work through the National Energy Code for Buildings (NECB) for Part 3 buildings. That covers how the code applies, the three compliance paths (prescriptive, trade-off, and performance), how exemptions get justified, and what a defensible NECB report needs to contain. This isn’t an introductory session. It’s built to respect the expertise you already bring, and to sharpen it against what’s changing.
You Will Learn:
- Core Compliance: Define and comply with NECB requirements and methodologies.
- Energy Tiers: Understand the tiered energy codes of the NECB and NBC and how they apply in Manitoba.
- Code Versions: Differentiate between NECB 2025 and NECB 2020 requirements, including adoption status and provincial modifications.
- Commercial Building Requirements: Code and compliance coverage for the NBC Part 3.
- Efficiency Goals: Use the latest technological advancements to help achieve energy efficiency and net-zero goals.

Meet Your Instructor
Ali Nazari is Executive Director of National Growth and Strategy for Buildings at CIMA+, with over 20 years leading integrated design, sustainability, and advanced building energy simulation work across Canada.
He’s led landmark high-performance projects, including Canada’s first commercial Living Building Challenge development and Vancouver’s first certified LEED Platinum office, and has developed energy modelling tools used to evaluate design options on hundreds of projects. He holds a Master of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering from UBC, where he has also served as Adjunct Professor since 2018.
