Mentorship Program — Building Manitoba’s Retrofit Expertise

Manitoba’s building sector is evolving rapidly — and so is the need for skilled professionals who understand energy efficiency, building performance, and deep retrofits.
Sustainable Building Manitoba’s Mentorship Program connects emerging professionals with experienced mentors across the province, helping strengthen local expertise in energy modelling, design, and retrofit implementation.

Together, we’re building the next generation of professionals who will design, deliver, and value sustainable buildings in Manitoba.

Why Mentorship Matters

The demand for energy efficiency and retrofit expertise is growing. Yet, many early-career professionals lack opportunities to apply their knowledge in real projects.
Our mentorship program helps close that gap by fostering collaboration between those who want to learn and those who are ready to share what they’ve learned.

This program builds more than skills — it builds connections, confidence, and community across Manitoba’s sustainable building sector.

For Mentees — Learn, Build, and Lead

Gain Real Experience

If you’re a student, recent graduate, or early-career professional eager to develop practical experience in energy modelling, building performance, or sustainability-driven design, this program is your entry point.

You’ll work alongside mentors who have helped shape Manitoba’s retrofit landscape, gaining insights that bridge theory and practice.

You’ll gain:

  • Real-world experience with energy modelling and retrofit projects in Manitoba.
  • One-on-one mentorship with experienced professionals.
  • Insight into how Manitoba’s retrofit market is evolving — and where new opportunities are emerging.
  • A stronger understanding of how retrofits support affordability, resilience, and climate goals.

Who Should Apply

Mentees typically include:

  • Students in architecture, engineering, or environmental programs.
  • Professionals — at any stage of their career — who want to expand their understanding of energy modelling, retrofit design, or building performance.
  • People who enjoy working with data, problem-solving, and understanding how buildings really perform, be healthier, more efficient, and more resilient.

Applications open annually.  We are currently accepting applications until October 20th for an early November start.  To apply, please send your resume and a short statement of interest to info@sustainablebuildingmanitoba.ca with the subject line “Mentorship Program.”
